I want to take a moment and dedicate this space and journey to my older sister.
A little over a month ago, unexpectedly, my sister passed away. March 10th, 2018, to be exact. She died in her sleep, still to my knowledge to be unknown causes. She died a courageous woman, who dedicated her life to serving others and her community. She was a mother of two. A two and a five year old. Her last year on Earth she found courage. Courage to learn to drive. Courage to express herself from trying new hairstyles. To courage in finding her inner voice for women's rights. As her funeral progressed and speeches unraveled, one speech really caught my attention, as to defining who my sister really was. You see, my sister was always a caterpillar in life. Until suddenly she found the courage to become the beautiful butterfly she was always meant to be.
Little did my older sister know, that she would give me the courage in becoming my own butterfly. She gave me the courage to just go for it, and start The Skin Betch without even realizing it.
I know she is with me on this journey as I start this passion project of mine and find my own courage to help people in my community, like she did.
Thank you for giving me the courage, you are my role model.
